Sclerotherapy – treatment for vascular lesions by injection
Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat blood vessels or blood vessel malformations (vascular malformations) and also those of the lymphatic system.
A medicine is injected into the vessels, which makes them shrink. It is used for children and young adults with vascular or lymphatic malformations. There can be two treatments:
- treatment for vascular lesions for medical reason
- treatment for vascular lesions for cosmetic reason
Our Dr Rad here at Aqua Marine Medical Centre & Skin Clinic is a trained professional for this procedures, and is well known for his amazing results. The procedure will take between 45 minutes to one hour. The patient is provided with special compression stockings which we advise to be worn for the next two weeks.
Not everyone who has spider veins or another condition that can be treated with sclerotherapy needs to have the procedure. People should discuss their symptoms and treatment options with their doctor to decide if it is necessary.
People with spider veins should consider sclerotherapy when:
- the veins are painful
- the legs are sore or feel heavy
- the skin on the legs or feet is patchy or dry
- there is a rash near the veins
